Wirecard: Investigations against eleven suspects "lacking evidence" dropped
**The public prosecutor's office has discontinued investigations against eleven previously accused individuals in the Wirecard complex. A spokesperson confirmed the discontinuations in the ongoing year. They were "due to lack of evidence." Previously, "Handelsblatt" had reported on the discontinuations.
Besides the previously charged offenses, investigations were being conducted against 21 other suspects in the original proceedings, according to the public prosecutor. The currently accused individuals in the ongoing Wirecard trial are also included in this number.
The payment service provider Wirecard went insolvent in June 2020 because 1.9 billion Euro, which had been recorded on trust accounts, could no longer be found. In addition, according to the indictment, billions in sales were allegedly fabricated to keep the deficit Dax-group afloat in reality.**
Despite the discontinuation of investigations against eleven individuals, investigations into the actions of the remaining 21 accused in the Wirecard case are still ongoing. The ongoing trial includes testimonies from these currently accused individuals, providing crucial evidence.
