A woman is suspected to have deliberately spilled around 60,000 liters of high-priced wine worth more than 2.5 million Euro in a Spanish winery in Villaescusa de Roa, 40 kilometers north of Madrid. The woman was arrested by the Guardia Civil according to the responsible police unit. Previously, various Spanish media reported on this, including the newspaper "La Vanguardia".

The woman is said to have sought revenge because she had been dismissed from the winery Bodegas Cepa 21. The sabotage act occurred in February in the municipality of Castrillo de Duero, around 150 kilometers north of Madrid, and caused a big stir in Spain.

The president of the damaged company, José Moro, told "La Vanguardia" now, he feels "bittersweet" after the arrest. He is relieved and happy about the alleged clarification, but still cannot understand "how such a sacrilege could have been committed".

He is sad that the spilled wine can never be enjoyed again and that his winery has suffered economically, Moro emphasized.

The intrusion was recorded by security cameras in the early hours of the 18th of February. On the videos, which were also published in the media, one could see a masked person entering the cellar of the winery in the Ribera del Duero wine region at half past four in the morning and opening the valves of five stainless steel tanks containing wine from the brands Malabrigo and Horcajo within less than a minute.

From the beginning, it was assumed that the intruder knew the layout of the facility well. The suspect is now reportedly out on bail, it was said, as there is no risk of flight.

The sabotage occurred in the Ribera del Duero wine region, specifically in Castrillo de Duero, which is around 150 kilometers north of Madrid. Despite the arrest, José Moro, the president of the damaged winery, Bodegas Cepa 21, expressed his sadness, as the spilled wine, primarily from the brands Malabrigo and Horcajo, can never be enjoyed again and the winery has suffered economically due to the incident.
