Revenge - Wine worth millions spilled - woman arrested

A woman is suspected to have deliberately spilled around 60,000 liters of high-priced wine worth more than 2.5 million Euro in a Spanish winery in Villaescusa de Roa, 40 kilometers north of Madrid, according to the Guardia Civil (Civil Guard). Previously, various Spanish media outlets, including "La Vanguardia," reported on the incident.

The woman is believed to have acted out of revenge, as she was previously employed at the winery Bodegas Cepa 21 and had been let go. The alleged sabotage act occurred in February in the municipality of Castrillo de Duero, around 150 kilometers north of Madrid. The incident caused a stir in Spain.

The Entrepreneur Mourns the Spilled Wine

The president of the affected business, José Moro, told "La Vanguardia," "I feel a bitter-sweet feeling after her arrest. I am relieved and happy about the potential clarification, but I still can't understand how such a sacrilege could have been committed."

Moro expressed sadness that the spilled wine would be lost forever and could not be enjoyed, adding, "The economic impact on my winery is another matter entirely."

At half past four in the morning, she turned on the roosters

The intrusion was recorded on security cameras in the early hours of February 18. In the videos released to the media, one could see a figure in a mask entering the winery's storage room in the renowned Ribera del Duero wine region around half past four in the morning and opening the valves of five stainless steel tanks containing wine from the brands Malabrigo and Horcajo within less than a minute.

From the beginning, it was assumed that the intruder was very familiar with the premises. The suspect is now reportedly out on bail, as there is no risk of flight.

The incident occurred in the Ribera del Duero wine region, which is known for its fine wines and is located near Madrid. Despite being out on bail, the woman may never get to enjoy the taste of Madrid's renowned wines, as she allegedly destroyed tens of thousands of liters of high-priced Malabrigo and Horcajo wines.
