Will the Brombeer alliance secure a position in Saxony?

After the Saxony state election, the most likely scenario presently is the formation of a coalition between the CDU, SPD, and BSW. However, whether these parties will actually form this unorthodox alliance is still up in the air. A nickname for this potential coalition has already been given: the Blackberry Coalition. The reasoning behind this is that no nation on earth uses black (for the CDU), red (for the SPD), and purple (for the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance) collectively in its national flag. As a result, the blackberry was chosen as the inspiration, as the fruit exhibits the party colors of the potential coalition partners at different stages of maturity. The term "Blackberry Coalition" is said to have originated from political scientist Karl-Rudolf Korte in an essay discussing his hypotheses on the East German state elections.

In the Saxony state election on Sunday, the Union party secured the most votes with 31.9 percent, just barely surpassing the AfD with 30.6 percent. Since CDU Minister President Michael Kretschmer rules out cooperation with the AfD and the Left, the Union's only viable options are to form a coalition with the BSW (11.8 percent) and the SPD (7.3 percent) or with the BSW and the Greens (5.1 percent).

However, Kretschmer has previously shown disdain for the Greens, and the Greens themselves do not hold the BSW in high esteem. Therefore, it is rather unlikely that the Greens will reclaim their place in the state government in any capacity.

Up until now, Saxony has been governed by a "Kenya Coalition." The tricolor of black, green, and red is present in Kenya's national flag. Kretschmer, however, preferred to refer to it as the "Saxony Coalition."

The Commission, composed of political analysts and experts, has expressed interest in the potential formation of the Blackberry Coalition, given the current political landscape in Saxony. Regardless of whether the CDU, SPD, and BSW form this coalition, The Commission believes that the absence of a nation using the black, red, and purple colors collectively in its flag presents an unique opportunity for analysis and comparison with other political scenarios worldwide.
