The man who was shot and killed trying to assassinate Donald Trump was the twice-married father of two, Corey Comperatore. Governor Shapiro described the deceased as a volunteer firefighter and churchgoer who loved his fellow humans, especially his family. Comperatore had shielded his family and died as a "hero." In honor of him, flags in the state of Pennsylvania were to be flown at half-mast.
The 50-year-old was a Trump supporter and was excited about his rally in Butler, according to Shapiro. In the online service X, Comperatore answered the question of what he had planned for the weekend with the words: "Event with Trump! Butler, in Pennsylvania." It was his last message in that online service.
