White House Labels Biden Videos as "Cheap Forgeries"
Republicans in the US are trying hard to paint Biden as an unsuitable candidate for the presidency ahead of the election. Videos are popping up online purported to show the deterioration of the 81-year-old. However, the White House spokesperson claims these clips are tampered with.
The White House has taken aim at the Republican Party for distributing tampered videos of President Joe Biden as "shoddy fakes." The clips supposedly depicting Biden's mental and physical downfall are deceitfully edited, according to the White House spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre. She calls them "shoddy fakes." Jean-Pierre added, "That says it all about how pitifully they're trying."
Over the past few days, numerous video clips have surfaced from news outlets like the "New York Post" and on a Republican account on a social media platform, featuring Biden seeming confused. One such video, even ridiculed by former President Donald Trump, shows President Biden looking disoriented among world leaders during a parachute jump demonstration at the G7 Summit in Italy. According to Jean-Pierre, these recordings have been tampered with.
In reality, Biden was just making a nod of encouragement to the parachutists. Jean-Pierre clarified, "This was thoroughly checked (...), even by conservative media." She further explained, "If you let the video run a bit longer, you can see (...) the actual scene." NBC News also disputed the allegations. A video from the NBC News archives, shot from a different angle, reflects Biden interacting with parachutists just a few meters away.
Health Checks Regularly Scheduled
Another clip circulating in right-wing media and conservative circles depicts Biden at the White House during a concert. In this clip, Biden sits quietly while world leaders around him dance. Biden's critics use this clip to imply mental confusion. "The president was there and enjoyed the music, but he didn't dance," said Jean-Pierre about this. "I didn’t know it was a problem not to dance," she added.
Biden's age has become a key attack point in Trump's campaign for the November presidential election. Trump's team frequently shares videos showing Biden tripping, stuttering, looking tired, or appearing disoriented. The presumptive Republican presidential candidate, Trump, is three years younger at 78. Unlike Trump, Biden must undergo regular health checks as head of state, and the results must be made public.
