Where it still beats hard

After the hottest day of the year with 36.5°C in Ahrweiler and the severe storms, especially in the west and south, the thunderstorms are striking again today with severe weather warnings. Storm "Quintessa" is causing havoc right in the middle of Germany. This time, it's heading east.

Extreme heat stress before lightning and thunder

Heat and heat stress are the dominant themes today. Already in the morning, the thermometer in the east reached the 25°C mark. And the highs are shooting well over the 30°C mark, with some areas reaching around 35°C. However, it's unlikely to break a new record this year. There's no need to, as the humid and muggy air is challenging enough. Especially in the northeast, in an area from the Weser and Elbe rivers across Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg to Saxony, a high heat stress warning is in effect.

Thunderstorms with severe weather potential move east

Storm "Quintessa" is bringing rain showers or even heavy thunderstorms to the west and northwest today. The east starts off partly sunny. Throughout the day, local heavy thunderstorms with severe weather potential will form almost nationwide. This could again lead to heavy rain, hailstones up to 5 cm in diameter, or gusty winds. Only towards Vorpommern will it stay dry for a long time. Here, it's also not quite as muggy.

In the northwest, it will cool down to 23 to 27°C, while in the south and east, it will still be hot at 30 to 35°C. On Thursday night, the dangerous thunderstorm zone will shift further east.

Thursday - Day of weather calm

On Thursday, it won't be completely dry everywhere, but there will be a noticeable improvement in the weather, and the great mugginess will be gone. The highs will be in the "normal summer" range of 23 to 32°C. In the northeast, there may still be a few showers, and from Saxony to the south, there may be some thunderstorms. However, there will be no severe weather warnings, and from the west, there will be longer friendly periods.

Outlook for the weekend: It's boiling again in the south - otherwise, it's lightly changeable

While there will also be some friendly periods, rain, showers, and thunderstorms will continue to mix in. On Friday, especially at the North Sea and over the southern mountains, and on Saturday, more widely across the whole country. On Sunday, it will be more prevalent towards the Alps again. Initially, the highs will be around 30°C, but on Sunday, they will only reach 20 to 25°C. At least the great mugginess will be gone.

Despite the upcoming change in weather, the heat stress remains a concernIn the northeast, even though storm "Quintessa" is moving east, the high heat stress warning remains in effect, making the humid and muggy air a challenge.

Thunderstorms and severe weather warnings are expected to continue in the eastAs storm "Quintessa" moves through the country, it's expected to bring local heavy thunderstorms with severe weather potential to the east, leading to heavy rain, hailstones, or gusty winds, and issuing further severe weather warnings.
