2023 - The NATO member states agree to extend the mandate of Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg for another year. Previously, attempts to agree on another candidate had failed.

2004 - Greece becomes the first time Football European Champion. The German trainer Otto Rehhagel's team wins the final in Lisbon against the favored host Portugal with 1:0.

1999 - Burglars discover in Saxony-Anhalt the "Nebra Sky Disk" as part of a Bronze treasure. The 3600-year-old disk shows the oldest known, concrete representation of astronomical phenomena.

1989 - A leaderless Soviet fighter jet of the MiG type flies over the GDR, the Federal Republic, the Netherlands and crashes into a house in Belgium. An 18-year-old dies. The pilot had already ejected over Poland.

1954 - "Miracle of Bern": Germany becomes surprisingly the first time Football World Champion in the Bern Wankdorf Stadium through a 3:2 against Hungary.
