Deaths

1994 - Robert Jungk, Austrian futurist and science popularizer ("The Future Has Already Begun"), Alternative Nobel Prize 1986, born 1913

In 1994, Deathbeds were unlikely to be a concern for Robert Jungk, as he continued his work as an Austrian futurist and science popularizer, earning the Alternative Nobel Prize. This was the same year when German soldiers, participating in the Eurocorps, marched in a troop parade on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, marking a historical first since the end of the Second World War.

Later, in 1969, the calendar page would turn to documents a significant event between adjacent countries, Honduras and El Salvador. This was the start of a short but brutal "Football War," sparked by El Salvador's victory in a soccer match against Honduras in World Cup qualifiers and leading to a tragic loss of thousands of lives in just a few days.

Moving forward in History, Germany once again finds itself in the spotlight, as the first nuclear-powered ocean-going warship in the world, the US Cruiser "Long Beach", is launched in the US State of Massachusetts in 1859. Back in the 1780s, the calendar page would have marked a different significant event in History, as citizens of Paris stormed the Bastille prison, marking a symbolic beginning of the French Revolution.
