2014 - In reaction to American spying activities in Germany, the German government requests that the chief intelligence officer of the American embassy in Berlin leaves the country.

1999 - In Berlin, 1.5 million ravers break records at the Love Parade. For nearly two hours, techno fans transform the Tiergarten into the largest open-air disco in the world.

1994 - During an outing with his owner, the approximately 80 centimeter long eyeglasses lizard "Sammy" escapes into a dredger pond near Dormagen (NRW). The following multi-day "wildlife hunt" becomes a media spectacle. On July 15, a scuba diver manages to recapture the reptile.

1934 - The German writer, journalist, and anarchist Erich Mühsam is murdered by the Nazis in the concentration camp Oranienburg after severe mistreatment. Mühsam was significantly involved in the proclamation of the Munich Soviet Republic in 1918 and founded several anarchist journals.

1909 - The first International Airship Exhibition is opened in Frankfurt am Main. One of the main attractions is an "Aeroplane" by the Wright Brothers from the USA.
