1994 - Israel's Prime Minister, Izchak Rabin, visits Jordan. It is the first official visit of an Israeli head of government to the neighboring Arab country.

1969 - The German Cooperative Association of Wells decides to introduce a new reusable bottle for mineral water, the so-called Normbrunnen bottle designed by industrial designer Günter Kupetz.

1944 - Erwin von Witzleben, Peter Graf Yorck von Wartenburg, Erich Hoepner, Paul von Hase, and four other officers are sentenced to death and executed in Berlin for their involvement in the July 20 coup attempt.

1924 - The "regular electric suburban train service" begins for the first time from Berlin to Bernau. The inauguration of the 22-kilometer-long track is considered the birth of the Berlin S-Bahn. It receives its name six years later.

1884 - In the USA, George Eastman patents the first roll film. The gelatin-coated paper film is soon replaced by celluloid film.
