Risk of severe weather - Weather service: thunderstorms possible in the coming days
Thunder, heavy rain and the like can also meet many soccer fans during Public Viewing or in their own gardens at the weekend. However, the German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach predicted a weather calming down for Friday.
"Only in the east and particularly in the southeast does the hot and humid air persist initially. Localized heavy thunderstorms are still possible there," said meteorologist Marcel Schmid from DWD. In the west and north of the country, as well as in the center, it often remains dry and the sun is widespread. Temperatures rise again to summery 20 to 25 degrees in the northwest, and it can even get up to 31 degrees warm in the rest of Germany.
Temperatures rising
The thermometer then climbs even further over the weekend. "With up to 35 degrees in the south, it will be oppressively hot," explained Schmid. Moreover, the sun is forecast to show itself for extended periods. Aside from occasional showers and thunderstorms in the southwest and the center, it will mostly remain dry. "The big bang then occurs from late Saturday afternoon and evening with a low pressure system moving from France to West Germany," the weather service warned of "significantly increased thunderstorm risk." In the south and east, however, it is expected to remain dry.
On Sunday, the DWD expects uncertain weather. In the northwest and at the Alps, there is a threat of prolonged heavy rain, said the meteorologist. Elsewhere, there is a forecast for showery and thundery rain. Temperatures also drop: Only in the east are still 30 degrees possible. The highest temperatures are predicted to be 20 to 27 degrees.
