In the evening, it could become extremely uncomfortable in a broad strip from the southwest to the center.

For the EM-Quarterfinal match of the German Football National Team against Denmark, parts of Germany are threatened with heavy storms. Particularly in the Southwest, there is a risk of thunderstorms with heavy rain, strong gusts up to storm or hurricane force winds, and larger hail.

Regarding going to a public viewing, Tobias Reinartz, a meteorologist at the German Weather Service in Offenbach, advised against it. "This can be very dangerous if you're outside." Several fan zones have already been temporarily closed due to bad weather.

In Dortmund, where the Quarterfinal match of the team coached by Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann at home for the EM is being played, there is a risk that a strong thunderstorm will develop towards the end of the game. "A prolongation would not be recommended from a meteorological perspective," Reinartz explained.

Thunderstorms possible as early as this afternoon

According to the German Weather Service, there is a possibility of individual thunderstorms in the middle of Germany as early as this afternoon, before a pronounced thunderstorm situation sets in during the evening hours. "The focus is in the Southwest, and it will shift towards Hesse and West Thuringia," the meteorologist said. "It is absolutely essential to keep an eye on the warning situation and weather development!"

According to the Weather Service, there is a risk of local flooding, flooded cellars and underpasses, and uprooted trees. "Although the risk of larger hail and gusts up to storm or hurricane force decreases in the second half of the night, there is still a risk of heavy rain," it was stated.

On Thursday, storms led to numerous interventions by fire departments and traffic disruptions in large parts of Germany. Affected areas included Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, Thuringia, North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Hamburg, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

And how will the weather continue? According to the German Weather Service, it will be uncertain on Sunday and in the following days with showers and individual thunderstorms. "However, significantly cooler air is flowing in from the west. So, on Sunday, only highest temperatures of around 20 degrees Celsius in the west and around 30 degrees Celsius in the east. In the new week, temperatures of approximately 17 to 23 degrees Celsius are expected.
