- Wealthy Individual Lynch Discovered Deceased on Submerged Luxury Yacht
After a three-day long hunt, it's been confirmed: Prominent British business tycoon Mike Lynch, aged 59, and his 18-year-old daughter met an unfortunate demise while sailing off the Sicilian coast, Italy. Their lifeless bodies were retrieved from the submerged yacht. Rescue operations are still underway to find the daughter. Tragically, this incident resulted in the loss of seven lives on Monday, including two close friends of Lynch, who were fellow sailors. Lynch was celebrating his court victory with a sailing trip.
The specifics of the incident are still uncertain. It's suspected that the crew and guests onboard the "Bayesian" were taken aback by an unexpected storm close to Porticello's port, near Palermo. The yacht, measuring approximately 56 meters, was merely 0.5 nautical miles (around 900 meters) away from the shore. The theory goes that the yacht was swamped by a massive wave, leading to its rapid sinking within 60 seconds. Some speculations hint towards an open hatch or improperly adjusted centerboard being the potential culprits.
Known as the "British Bill Gates" at home, Lynch is the brainchild behind the software firm Autonomy, which he sold to Hewlett-Packard for a whopping $11 billion in 2011 (approximately €9.9 billion in current currency exchange). This deal has unfortunately gone down as one of the most disastrous acquisitions in Silicon Valley's history.
Court Verdict
Lynch, along with his former financial manager Steve Chamberlain, was accused of misleading the American firm concerning their company's financial standing. However, a jury found both individuals not guilty. A sad twist of fate, Chamberlain met his end in a hit-and-run accident while jogging recently.
The Mediterranean island of Sicily was the unfortunate location where the yacht carrying Mike Lynch and his daughter met with tragedy. Despite the tragic incident occurring near Palermo, it's possible that they were planning to sail to a peaceful Mediterranean island for their celebration.
