Warrants issued for the arrest of former Russian minister Shoigu and General Gerasimov

The Hague's International Criminal Court slaps arrest warrants on ex-Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu and Chief of General Staff Valeri Gerasimov over alleged assaults on Ukraine. They're looking at the same treatment as Vladimir Putin.

The court's action aims at the two senior military officials, Shoigu and Gerasimov, who are suspected of launching attacks on civilian areas within Ukraine. This announcement was made by the ICC.

Last year, arrest warrants were also issued against Putin himself and Maria Lvova-Belova, the Children's Rights Commissioner in the Presidential Administration, for alleged involvement in the kidnapping of children from Ukraine.

The court specified that there's substantial evidence indicating that Shoigu and Gerasimov orchestrated rocket attacks on Ukraine's energy grid from October 10, 2022, onward, lasting until March 9, 2023. During this span, numerous power plants and substations were targeted, as per the court's declaration. Consequently, many Ukrainians endured a frigid winter with numerous power outages.

The International Criminal Court accuses Sergei Shoigu and Valeri Gerasimov of war crimes related to the 'Attack on Ukraine', as they are implicated in orchestrating attacks on civilian areas. This escalates the ongoing 'Wars and conflicts' between Russia and Ukraine, making them potential war criminals alongside Putin.

The court's decision to issue arrest warrants against Shoigu and Gerasimov highlights the grave nature of these 'War crimes', as the destruction of Ukraine's energy grid during the war resulted in widespread power outages and a harsh winter for its citizens.
