Von der Leyen is the "most powerful woman in the world"
Ursula von der Leyen pulls the political strings in the EU Commission. As in the previous year, the business magazine "Forbes" once again voted her number 1 of the 100 most influential women in the world. However, the famous list does not only include female politicians. There is a surprise at number 100.
The most powerful woman in the world is once again from Germany: for the second time in a row, Ursula von der Leyen tops the Forbes list of the 100 most influential women in the world. The 65-year-old CDU politician, who has held the office of President of the European Commission since 2019, is once again listed ahead of famous personalities such as US Vice President Kamala Harris and US pop star Taylor Swift in the ranking of "The World's Most Powerful Women". "Forbes" already voted von der Leyen the most powerful woman in the world in 2022.
In second place this year is French politician Christine Lagarde, who became the first female President of the European Central Bank on November 1, 2019. Kamala Harris took third place, followed by Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in fourth place and Taylor Swift in fifth place.
Surprise at number 100
Other power women selected by "Forbes" include Bill Gates' ex-wife Melinda French Gates in 10th place and Jeff Bezos' ex-wife MacKenzie Scott in 13th place. Talk show legend Oprah Winfrey has made it to 31st place, closely followed by Beyoncé Knowles in 36th place. Singer and entrepreneur Rihanna is in 74th place.
If you take a look at the 100th place, you are in for a surprise: it is occupied by Barbie. Considering the criteria that are decisive for the "Forbes" ranking, however, the placement is not so far-fetched. For example, wealth, media impact, influence and reach are taken into account.
The cult doll has triggered a veritable hype around the world thanks to this year's "Barbie" film directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. At the beginning of September, "Barbie" overtook the "Super Mario Bros. movie" at the global box office with 1.3 billion US dollars and is currently the highest-grossing film of the year. The live-action film also caused a pink explosion in fashion and department stores.

Despite being listed at number 100, the surprise on the Forbes list of the 100 most influential women in the world is none other than the iconic Barbie doll. This placement can be attributed to Barbie's significant impact in wealth, media, and cultural influence due to the recent film's success, with actors like Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
Ryan Gosling plays a crucial role in the blockbuster film "Barbie," directed by Greta Gerwig, which has made waves globally and surpassed the "Super Mario Bros. movie" at the box office, earning a whopping 1.3 billion US dollars.
Taylor Swift, the US pop star, does not make it to the top 10 in the Forbes list but still holds a respectable position within the highly influential women.
Despite her global impact, Giorgia Meloni, Italy's Prime Minister, ranks lower than many of her counterparts, coming in at 4th place, while Ursula von der Leyen continues to remain as the most powerful woman in the world with her second consecutive win on the Forbes list.
