Summer heat - Visiting the outdoor pool significantly more expensive than in 2023
People in North Rhine-Westphalia have to dig deeper into their pockets for a visit to the public pool than they did a year ago. According to the Statistical Office, pool admission fees have increased by 6.6 percent in comparison to the previous year. However, this is not all. The prices for snacks at the poolside have also risen. For example, cookie prices increased by 17.7 percent between June 2023 and June 2024. Ice cream is now 7.3 percent more expensive, mineral water, lemonades and juices 7.7 percent.
Swimsuits for women have become 4.4 percent more expensive. The price for men's swim trunks only went up by 2.8 percent. Towels (plus 0.4 percent) and sun umbrellas (minus 0.1 percent) showed below-average price increases or are even cheaper to buy. The consumer price index, which represents the average price of all consumer goods, rose by 2.2 percent in comparison to the previous year.
