Outbreak of Typhoon "Gaemi" caused a tidal surge in Central China, claiming at least 15 lives. According to Chinese State Television, a one-story house in the village Yuelin, Hunan Province, was carried away by a landslide caused by heavy rainfall on Saturday morning. Six people were injured in the landslide.

The destroyed building is reportedly a guesthouse that rented to tourists. Rescue operations are ongoing, with approximately 700 people involved. Additionally, on Saturday in the eastern Chinese metropolis of Shanghai, a deliveryman was killed by a falling tree, according to "The Paper" newspaper.

Over 300,000 people evacuated

Furthermore, two people are reported missing in the northeastern province of Jilin. Some 27,000 residents were evacuated in the northeast due to heavy rainfall, while hundreds of factories have temporarily halted production according to State Television reports.

In southern Fujian, nearly 300,000 residents were relocated to safety, while train connections were disrupted in neighboring Guangdong. No fatalities have been reported in the region as of yet.

Disorder and Destruction

Typhoon "Gaemi" has caused chaos and destruction throughout the region in recent days. On Taiwan, approximately 800,000 households were disconnected from the power grid. At least ten people lost their lives due to flooding.

The most severe damage was previously inflicted by "Gaemi" on the Philippines. The death toll, according to media reports, has risen to 34. In Manila Bay, an oil tanker carrying 1.4 million liters of industrial hexane sank during the storm, with some of the spilled oil reportedly escaping.

Already on Saturday, "Gaemi" was downgraded to a tropical storm due to decreasing wind speeds, but flooding risks remain elevated in certain regions of China.
