- Vice presidential candidate Tim Walz still has relatives in Kuppenheim.

Freshly minted U.S. Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz has German ancestry. His great-great-grandfather hailed from the Baden town of Kuppenheim, as reported by the "Badische Neueste Nachrichten" from Karlsruhe. The ancestor of the Vice President of Kamala Harris was named Sebastian Walz, son of a shoemaker, born on May 11, 1843, in Kuppenheim, which was then part of the Grand Duchy of Baden.

In 1867, he emigrated to the USA, where he died at the age of 71 in Lawrence, Nebraska, according to the newspaper. His son John Friedrich Walz married in 1898, from which Raymond A. Walz was born. This Raymond is the father of the farmer James Frederick Walz. The current Vice Presidential candidate was born on April 6, 1964, in West Point, Nebraska, as the son of James Frederick Walz.

Tim Walz's relatives still live in the area

"The direct male lineage of Tim Walz can be traced back to Kuppenheim quite far," said the mayor of the Baden town, Karsten Mußler (Free Voters), to the newspaper. The U.S. politician likely still has relatives in the town on the edge of the North Black Forest: Further ancestors of Walz came from several local families, the mayor reported to the newspaper. "Tim Walz would thus have numerous common ancestors with today's Kuppenheimers."

Walz would not be the first man with German roots in the White House: The ancestors of the Republican candidate and former President Donald Trump come from Kallstadt in the Pfalz.

The Democratic U.S. Presidential candidate Kamala Harris has recently chosen the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, as her Vice. The 60-year-old is considered a politician who, with his simple language, reaches voters without academic education, but at the same time represents liberal positions. The former National Guard member, teacher, and football coach fought for access to abortion and free school meals for children. He also advocates for a stricter review of gun buyers.

Tim Waltz, the Vice Presidential candidate, shares ancestral ties with the Baden town of Kuppenheim, as noted by the mayor Karsten Mußler. Interestingly, the mayor mentioned that Walz may still have relatives living in the area, potentially sharing common ancestors with the current Kuppenheimers.
