- Vice President Kennedy contemplating potential alliance with Trump
The potential Vice-President candidate for the non-affiliated U.S. presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy has suggested a collaboration with ex-President Donald Trump. According to Nicole Shanahan, speaking in an interview, there are now two paths: continuing in the race and potentially letting Democrat Kamala Harris win the presidential election on November 5th, or teaming up with Republican Trump at the moment. She added, "It's not an easy choice. I want to clarify I'm not negotiating with Trump."
Kennedy: Open to Engaging with All Sides
It's still unclear how much the discussions regarding this alignment have occurred between Kennedy and Shanahan. Kennedy, the nephew of esteemed former President John F. Kennedy, wrote on platform X, "As usual, I'm available to converse with top figures from all political parties to progress the values I've championed for 40 years in my job and campaign." Over the past weekend, there were whispers that Kennedy was thinking about backing Harris in her campaign, if given a cabinet position if she emerges victorious.
Shanahan dismissed these claims. "We've never had discussions with Harris," she said. "Trump has genuinely shown interest in our policies related to chronic illnesses. He takes this issue seriously," she commended Trump's 78 years of age. Now, it's about weighing the risk of a presidency under Harris and assessing if Trump is trustworthy.
Hopeless, but Still Influential
Kennedy's chances of winning the presidential election in November are slim, averaging around 5% in polls. However, both Democrats and Republicans are keeping a close eye on him, as the contest between Trump and Harris is shaping up to be a tight one. Kennedy possesses the ability to sway crucial percentages away from either the Republican or Democrat with his candidacy. Currently, it seems more detrimental to Trump's campaign.
As an environmental activist and lawyer, Kenned has advocated for causes like clean water. Lately, Kennedy, a declared vaccine skeptic, has been criticized by Democrats and family members for spreading conspiracy theories and associating with far-right politicians.
In March, he appointed businesswoman Shanahan as his running mate. The 38-year-old, wealthy lawyer, and entrepreneur was married to Google co-founder and billionaire Sergey Brin from 2018 to 2023. She grew up in modest circumstances, the daughter of an immigrant from China.
Kennedy’s potential alliance with Trump in the US election is a topic of interest, given his statement about engaging with all political parties. Despite having a slim chance of winning with a 5% average in polls, Kennedy's candidacy could impact crucial voting percentages, potentially swaying the tight contest between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Trump.
