Venezuela's opposition possesses a solid plan for peacefully ousting Maduro
After the controversial election in Venezuela, opposition figure Maria Corina Machado spoke to Reuters on Tuesday via video link, suggesting that President Nicolas Maduro could be peacefully ousted from power. She believed that peaceful demonstrations and international pressure could make this a reality. While the opposition has a solid plan to secure victory, Machado didn't disclose the specifics. "A blend of internal and external forces will initiate change," Machado stated. Currently, Maduro is only supported by a select group of high-ranking soldiers, holds influence over judges on the constitutional court, and maintains control over weapons.
Venezuela's electoral body announced Maduro as the winner of the election on July 28, with approximately 51% of the votes, but didn't release the precise number. However, the opposition claims victory for themselves. Following the election, Venezuela witnessed nationwide and international protests, where citizens demanded Maduro's resignation and recognized the opposition's triumph. Regrettably, at least 27 lives were lost, and 2,400 individuals were detained during these protests. Both sides have urged citizens to participate in protests on Wednesday.
