Nine-year-old girl killed - Valeriia case: suspect transferred to Germany

The suspect in the case of the nine-year-old Valeria from the Saxon town of Döbeln in Germany has been extradited to Germany. Czech police handed over the 36-year-old man to their German colleagues at the Petrovice border crossing in the morning.

The man is now being transported to Chemnitz and will be presented to an investigating judge there. "Then the arrest warrant will be read to him and he can express himself on the charge," explained Prosecutor General Ingrid Burghart in advance. The Moldavian is suspected of having killed the nine-year-old girl in early June. There are no indications of sexual abuse, according to investigators.

Valeria was last seen on June 3, 2022, on her way to school in the middle of Saxony, Döbeln. Her body was found after more than a week of intensive search in the undergrowth of a forest. A national and European arrest warrant had been issued for the 36-year-old. According to media reports, he is the ex-boyfriend of Valeria's mother. Czech police arrested him on June 14 in a restaurant in Prague. The exact motive for why the girl died is still unclear. The prosecution has not yet made a statement on how the girl died.

Valeria had fled to Germany with her mother from the war in Ukraine in 2022 and attended school in Döbeln. She is now buried in her old hometown of Pawlohrad in the eastern Ukraine.
