Child killed - Valeriia case: suspect is extradited
In the investigation of the violent death of the nine-year-old Valeriia from Döbeln, a suspect in custody of the Czech police will be handed over to the Saxon police this Wednesday. He is then supposed to be taken to Chemnitz and presented to an investigative judge. "Then the arrest warrant will be read to him and he can make a statement regarding the accusation," explained Prosecutor General Ingrid Burghart. The 36-year-old Moldavian is suspected of having killed the nine-year-old girl at the beginning of June. According to investigators, there are no indications of sexual abuse.
Valeriia had disappeared spurlessly on her way to school in the middle of Saxony on June 3rd. Her body was found after more than a week of intensive search in the undergrowth of a forest. A national and European arrest warrant had been issued for the 36-year-old since then. The Czech police arrested him on June 14th in a restaurant in Prague. The exact motive for why the girl died is still unclear. The prosecution has not yet made a statement on how the girl came to her death.
