Nine-year-old girl killed - Valeriia case: Suspect in custody in Saxony
The suspect in the case of the nine-year-old Valeria from the Saxon town of Döbeln is in pre-trial detention. The 36-year-old is currently in a Saxon penal institution, according to the Prosecutor's Office Chemnitz. He reportedly made no statement regarding the accusation during his hearing before the investigating judge.
In the morning, Czech police handed over the Moldavian to their German colleagues at the Petrovice border crossing. He is accused of having killed the nine-year-old girl in early June. There is reportedly no evidence of sexual abuse, according to the investigators.
Valeria had disappeared spurlessly on June 3rd in the middle Saxon town of Döbeln on her way to school. Her body was found after more than a week of intensive search in the undergrowth of a forest. A national and European arrest warrant had been issued for the 36-year-old. According to media reports, he is said to be the ex-boyfriend of Valeria's mother. Czech police arrested him on June 14th in a restaurant in Prague. The exact motive for why the girl died is still unclear. The Prosecutor's Office has not yet made a statement on how the girl died.
Valeria had fled to Germany with her mother from Ukraine before the war in 2022 and attended school in Döbeln. She is now buried in her hometown of Pawlohrad in the eastern Ukraine.
