US teenager found missing in Warnemünde
On Thursday morning, a young American cruise tourist named Aydin B., aged 14, disappeared in the Ostseebad Warnemünde. The search for him was initially unsuccessful, but on Sunday night, the police made a breakthrough in the investigation.
The search for a 14-year-old American tourist, Aydin B., who had gone missing from Ostseebad Warnemünde on Thursday morning, had a positive outcome. Aydin had left the "Caribbean Princess" cruise ship around 7 am. His trail went cold, and he did not return for the planned departure in the evening.
The cruise ship sailed on without the teenager. His grandmother, who had embarked on the journey with him, remained in Warnemünde. Simultaneously, the police launched extensive search efforts. In Warnemünde, they used "Mantrailer Dogs" to search for the missing boy. These dogs can reportedly distinguish various human scents from each other among the many tourists during the Warnemünde Week.
The criminal police evaluated both technical and human traces. They hoped that motion recordings could be created and analyzed. However, attempts to locate his phone and question merchants, restaurant owners, and residents of Warnemünde yielded no results. The police also examined footage from security cameras at the cruise terminal and the train station in Warnemünde.
On Saturday evening, the police issued the relieving statement: Officers had found the teenager safely in Brandenburg around 10:00 pm. According to the police report, intense investigations and the analysis of technical data had led the Rostock Criminal Police to the vicinity of Potsdam. The 14-year-old was with a 19-year-old, with whom he was believed to have arranged a meeting in Rostock based on initial findings. The two were reportedly known to each other from the gaming scene. No indications of a crime were reported at the current stage of the investigation.
No information was provided on when the grandmother and grandson would resume their journey.
The international community was informed about the missing 14-year-old American tourist in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Several missing persons databases circulated his description and last known location.
Despite being from the USA, Aydin's case sparked concerns in children's organizations across Europe, emphasizing the need for safety measures and awareness campaigns for young travelers.
