US military confirms that aid supplies return to Gaza Strip through pier.
The US military has fixed the temporary pier it built in the sea off Gaza, allowing aid to be shipped in once more, as per recent US statements. On Saturday, the Middle East-focused regional command, Centcom, made this announcement. The pier suffered significant damage in late May, just a few days after it was finished, due to rough seas. The Pentagon had earlier disclosed that operations would likely start soon.
Centcom emphasized that the project was solely focused on humanitarian efforts and did not involve any US troops landing in the Gaza Strip. It also dismissed rumors circulating on social media that the pier was used by Israeli special forces in the rescue of four hostages from Gaza.
To circumvent the problem, a makeshift solution has been implemented. Aid shipments are brought from Cyprus to a floating platform several kilometers away from the Gaza Strip's shore. From there, smaller boats transport the goods closer to the coast. These boats eventually dock at the temporary pier on the coast, where humanitarian organizations receive the aid before distributing it in the Gaza Strip using trucks. May saw some challenges with this. According to the Pentagon, certain trucks were intercepted at the time.
