Thunderstorm and heavy rain - Unweather devastates Open-Air-Festival in Slovakia
A storm at an Open-Air Festival in Trencin, Slovakia, caused damage. Ten people were taken to nearby hospitals, according to the dispatch center's evening report. They had sustained injuries such as head and upper limb trauma.
According to the TASR agency, during the thunderstorm with strong gusts of wind, a large tent collapsed, several smaller ones were overturned or damaged. The program was interrupted. At times, the power had to be cut off on the site. Police, fire department, and rescue services were in full force.
The "Pohoda" (Good Mood or Comfort) Festival took place at the Trencin Airport site. Families with children were also present. When the thunderstorm hit, the Czech rock band "Prazsky vyber" (Prague Selection) was performing on the main stage. An evacuation center for festivalgoers was set up in a sports hall. Whether the festival would continue on Saturday was still uncertain.
As early as Thursday in Slovakia, two people had lost their lives in a landslide in a mountain valley. In neighboring Czech Republic, thunderstorms with heavy rain caused problems. Uprooted trees disrupted the railway service at numerous locations on Friday.
In Krahulci near Telc in South Bohemia, the dike of a fish pond broke, cellars were flooded. Near Brno, a motorcyclist crashed into a tree on the road. At a campsite in Sudmeren, a man was injured when a tree fell on two cars and a tent.
