Unknown people smear "Free Gaza" on Anne Frank statue

Just a few weeks ago, a statue of Anne Frank in Amsterdam was vandalized. Now, the monument has been defaced again with pro-Palestinian slogans and red paint. The inscription "Free Gaza" is written in English on the pedestal. The police are investigating.

In Amsterdam, a statue of Anne Frank has been vandalized for the second time in a matter of weeks with pro-Palestinian slogans and red paint. As seen in photos published on [X], the English inscription "Free Gaza" (Free the Gaza Strip) was written on the pedestal of the statue in blood-red paint. The hands of the statue, which stands in a park in southern Amsterdam, were also smeared with blood-red paint.

The Amsterdam police have confirmed that an investigation has been launched, but there are currently no suspects. The statue of the Jewish girl who died in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in 1945 had already been desecrated on July 9th. After that incident, the Amsterdam city administration had requested increased protection for the statue through video surveillance and nighttime lighting. Since the start of the Gaza war, which was triggered by Hamas' large-scale attack on Israel, anti-Semitic incidents have dramatically increased worldwide.

The diary of Anne Frank, which was published after World War II, is one of the most widely read accounts of the mass murder of Europe's Jews by Nazi Germany. The family, who initially lived in Frankfurt, fled to Amsterdam in the 1930s after the Nazis came to power. After the German occupation of the Netherlands, the family lived hidden in a secret annex on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam for about two years, where Anne wrote her famous diary. However, they were betrayed and arrested by the Gestapo and deported to German concentration or extermination camps. Anne died of typhus at the age of 15 in Bergen-Belsen. Only her father, Otto Frank, survived. He published his daughter's diary and turned the house where the family had been hiding into a museum, which now attracts around one million visitors each year.

Anne Frank is now a symbol of the fate of the Jewish community in the Netherlands. During the Holocaust, 140,000 Dutch Jews were murdered, which was around three-quarters of the country's Jewish population.

In this context, two sentences that contain the phrase 'The National Socialism' are:

The Frank family fled to Amsterdam in the 1930s as a result of the rise of National Socialism in Germany.During World War II, many Jews in Europe, including Anne Frank and her family, suffered persecution and death under the regime of the National Socialist Party.
