Second Bundesliga - United-Star's brother is coming: Emil Højlund to Schalke

Danish striker Emil Højlund joins FC Schalke 04. The 19-year-old brother of Manchester United striker and national team player Rasmus Højlund comes from FC Kopenhagen to the Gelsenkirchen team. Schalke announced that he has signed a contract until June 30, 2028.

Emil Højlund comes from a true football family: Not only his older brother Rasmus is a professional, his twin brother Oscar Højlund will play for Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt in the upcoming season.

"He is a striker who can contribute with good running abilities and can also hold the ball well," Schalke's sporting director Marc Wilmots is quoted in a club statement on the new signing.

Højlund is a Danish U19 national player. According to club statements, he gave up participating in the ongoing European Championship in favor of preparing for the new season with his new club. Højlund had played mainly in the youth sector at FC Kopenhagen. He made four appearances for the professionals.

Emil Højlund's move to FC Schalke 04 takes him from the heart of Denmark to the Ruhr Area in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. His transfer from FC Copenhagen to the Bundesliga side is a significant step in his career. This 19-year-old striker will be playing in the same league as FC Schalke 04's historic rival, Borussia Dortmund. Despite his talents, Emil Højlund spent most of his time in the youth teams at FC Kopenhagen, making only four appearances in the first team. With his move to the Second Bundesliga, he aims to prove his worth and potentially secure a spot in the Bundesliga, just like his older brother Rasmus, who plays for Manchester United in England.
