Union of Airline Pilots Speaks Out Against Ryanair's Flights to Tel Aviv, Expressing Dissent
Low-cost airline Ryanair's approach to flights to Israel has come under fire from the Pilots' Union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC). According to VC, Ryanair permits its pilots to not reject flights to Tel Aviv due to safety concerns. The union contends that the decision to take such a flight should be made by the crew, considering the Middle Eastern situation and the ensuing restrictions and mental pressure.
VC-President Andreas Pinheiro articulated that the captain bears the ultimate responsibility for ensuring the safety of passengers, crew, and the plane. As such, he should be allowed to make the call for or against a flight based on a thorough and up-to-date risk assessment of his own volition.
Pinheiro further noted that this principle is commonly observed in other German aviation companies. He expressed hope that Ryanair will uphold its duty of care towards its crews and prioritize crew safety and flight safety when deciding on flights to Tel Aviv.
