The West accuses China of supporting Russia in its aggression war against Ukraine. Beijing denies the accusations. Kiev's Foreign Minister Kuleba visits the People's Republic now to speak about possibilities for ending the war.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba is traveling to China on Tuesday for talks about a possible ending of Russia's aggression war against his country. "The main topic of the talks will be finding ways to stop Russian aggression and China's potential role in achieving a sustainable and just peace," explained the Ministry in Kiev.

The visit is reportedly set to last until Thursday. The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed the meeting and stated that the initiative for the meeting came from Beijing. China, which maintains a close political and economic partnership with Russia, presents itself as a neutral party in the Ukraine conflict. However, Kiev's Western allies accuse China of not condemning Russia's aggression and continuing to supply it with goods that can be used for both civilian and military purposes.

Two weeks ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for direct peace negotiations between Kiev and Moscow and the involvement of the international community for a ceasefire during a visit by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. However, China did not participate in the Ukraine peace conference in Switzerland.

Already in February 2023, China had published a Twelve-Point Plan for ending the Ukraine war. However, Western states criticized the paper as allowing Russia to keep control over wide areas of the Ukrainian territory it had occupied.

  1. During his visit to China, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will discuss with Chinese officials the potential role of China in bringing an end to Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
  2. Despite denying support for Russia in the Ukraine-Conflict, Beijing is seen by Kiev's Western allies as not doing enough to condemn Russia's actions and continuing to supply it with goods with dual use.
  3. Recently, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for direct peace negotiations between Kiev and Moscow and the involvement of the international community, but China itself did not participate in the Ukraine peace conference in Switzerland.
  4. The West has criticized a Twelve-Point Plan for ending the Ukraine war proposed by China in February 2023, as it allowed Russia to maintain control over areas it had occupied.
