Russian incursion - Ukraine War: the current scenario
Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian President, declared that Russia's attack on the eastern border region of Kharkiv has stalled temporarily. He stated in his evening speech that the Russian military hasn't been successful in executing their Kharkiv operation. In addition, Zelensky said they're fighting back as hard as they can and obliterating Russian troops that invade Ukraine and terrorize the Kharkiv area.
Russia initiated an assault on Kharkiv around mid-May and has captured multiple Ukrainian border villages. Even though they haven't achieved a substantial breakthrough, Charkiv is still being heavily bombarded. Consequently, various Western allies - including Germany and the United States - have recently granted permission to Ukraine to strike targets across the Russian border with guns given by them.
In his speech, Zelensky expressed gratitude to French President Emmanuel Macron for his assistance. Recently, Macron promised to provide Ukraine with fighter jets.
Biden and Macron Exhibit Support for Ukraine
As part of a state visit to France, US President Joe Biden exhibited his backing for Ukraine. "We remain firmly by Ukraine's side and by our allies' side," Biden stated in Paris. "Putin won't triumph in Ukraine."
However, there's contention between the two countries over whether or not Western combat trainers should be dispatched to Ukraine. Macron stated his willingness to do so the day before the event. Nevertheless, the US government has affirmed they will not participate. Neither Macron nor Biden tackled the subject during their joint address.
Scholz: No German Soldiers for Ukraine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz repeated his decision to keep German soldiers away from the conflict zone. "We're working to prevent escalation," Scholz stated at an SPD election rally in Duisburg. This encompasses Biden's statement and Scholz's own: "No troops from our nations will enter Ukraine, as well as NATO."
During a discussion on military instruction with Zelensky in Paris, Macron mentioned, "We aim to create a coalition due to efficiency, and several of our partners have already agreed." They'll utilize the forthcoming days to complete a large coalition that's expected to address Ukraine's appeal. Macron highlighted that the request is legitimate. It would be more practical and efficient to train on Ukrainian soil.
