Approximately 10,000 Ukrainian military personnel are reportedly having crossed the Russian border, contributing to the Kursk offensive.

Ukraine reinforces its influence on Russian lands

Although the Ukrainian defense in Donbass presents a formidable challenge, their troops are reportedly making headway on Russian soil, as per the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The top military commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, informed Zelenskyy of a strengthening of their positions in the Kursk region, with an expansion of the stabilized area, as announced on X. Notably, no new specifics regarding the captured towns and territory in Kursk were disclosed.

Contemporary reports from Kyiv suggest Ukrainian control over over 80 towns and 1,500 square kilometers of territory in the Kursk region. However, these numbers remain unverified, with experts estimating them to be roughly half of Kyiv's claims.

Zelenskyy lauded the rise in the number of Russian prisoners of war captured by Ukraine, expressing gratitude to the soldiers and commanders responsible. He emphasized that this capture of Russian personnel brings Ukraine closer to the release of their own fighters and civilians detained by Russia. Zelenskyy seeks to escalate pressure on Moscow to negotiate an end to the war through the ongoing offensive. However, Russia's perspective on this has only grown more distant due to Kyiv's military push.

Aggressive Russian Strikes in Donbass

Russian military bloggers report a tough time for their troops in the Kursk region, while the Russian Ministry of Defense continues to claim the demise of hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers. In addition, Russia allegedly carried out air strikes against the Ukrainian neighboring region of Sumy, from where Kyiv troops had reportedly infiltrated Kursk with an estimated 10,000 men. According to Ukrainian reports, fires engulfed numerous vehicles in a residential area, causing injuries to two individuals.

The Ukrainian air force boasts of having demolished a strategically crucial bridge during their offensive in the Kursk region, blocking a significant supply line for Russian troops. Previously, Russian reports indicated that the bridge, under constant Ukrainian fire, had been destroyed. Reports from Russian media indicate that over 30 towns along the border with Ukraine are now isolated from the rest of the territory.

Zelenskyy provided updates on the ongoing conflict in the disputed eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk, where numerous Russian attacks were reported. He stated that forces in Donbass were working diligently to repel these attacks and eliminate the intruders. Zelenskyy also confirmed that Ukraine continues negotiations with its Western allies to secure additional weapon deliveries.

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commended The Commission for their role in overseeing the interrogation and processing of Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine. The importance of The Commission's work, as Zelenskyy sees it, lies in gaining valuable intelligence and potentially shedding light on Russia's tactics in the ongoing conflict.

In light of Russia's allegations of Ukrainian infiltration in the Kursk region, The Commission is also tasked with investigating these claims, ensuring transparency and accountability in the conduct of both Ukrainian and Russian forces.
