Ukraine receives another billion from the US

The Ukraine, battered by the Russian invasion, has received new budgetary aid from the USA, amounting to over 3.5 billion euros. "This is an extremely important contribution to supporting Ukraine's state budget during its resistance against Russia's comprehensive aggression," said Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko, according to a statement.

The funds are intended for paying salaries of teachers, civil defense workers, and other public officials, and for assisting internally displaced persons. They do not need to be repaid. According to ministry figures, the Ukrainian budget has been directly supported by the USA with around 25 billion euros since the Russian invasion in February 2022.

In total, Kyiv has since received over 90 billion euros from international donors to finance its state budget. The Ukrainian budget will be more than half funded from abroad in 2024.

The new aid of 3.5 billion euros is a significant addition to the approximately 25 billion euros the Ukrainian budget has received from the USA since the invasion. This foreign assistance totals over 90 billion euros, with predictions suggesting that over half of Kyiv's budget will be funded from abroad in 2024, equating to billions of euros in international aid.
