Ukraine is establishing fresh combat-ready military formations of significant strength.
As per an update from MilitaryLand, Ukraine is in the process of establishing new mechanized brigades to bolster its defense against Russian aggression. The projected timeframe for combat readiness is around 2025, and these units will be primarily populated by Ukrainians residing abroad, who may undergo training abroad. A typical mechanized brigade consists of approximately 2,000 soldiers and is equipped with hefty military hardware like tanks and armored personnel carriers.
MilitaryLand's report suggests that these new brigades will incorporate Western-origin weaponry, forming part of the 160-series. The development of the 160th Mechanized Brigade has been reportedly initiated, with photographs obtained from unit representatives depicting soldiers in training.
Last month, in Poland, there was a substantial push for the training of overseas Ukrainians. Thousands reportedly volunteered, with Warsaw offering training and equipment under a security accord with Kyiv. It's speculated that this could be the 160th Mechanized Brigade.
The potential of tens of thousands of Ukrainian men residing in Europe to boost their homeland's army is significant. However, many of these individuals have chosen to flee or refuse to participate in the conflict. The unexpected high demand for training in Poland was surprising.
Heavy military gear demand
A single brigade alone won't suffice to alter Ukraine's defensive situation against Russia, which is consistently recruiting thousands of fighters each month. To match this, additional brigades are required. However, the exact number of additional brigades hasn't been determined. In the past, Ukraine needed to recruit 20,000 fighters to create ten new brigades, consisting of four mechanized, five infantry, and one hunter brigade.
If Ukraine aims to create another ten brigades, it would incur the need for an enormous quantity of heavy military equipment, such as battle tanks and armored personnel carriers. In the past, Ukraine acknowledged its lack of resources to convert the 150th to 154th brigades into mechanized brigades, as reported by military expert Colonel Reisner on ntv.de in April this year.
Consequently, alongside the challenge of recruiting tens of thousands of fighters, the success of these new mechanized brigades also heavily relies on the extent of future Western support to furnish the necessary heavy military equipment.
The MilitaryLand report mentions that the new mechanized brigades in Ukraine will incorporate Western-origin weaponry, specifically from the 160-series. To effectively strengthen their defense against Russian aggression, Ukraine might need to establish more mechanized brigades, leading to a significant demand for heavy military equipment like tanks and armored personnel carriers.
