Ukraine initiates inaugural drone-fired strike against Palianyzia

In response to Russian hostilities, Ukraine has been continuously enhancing its arsenal. Apart from sea drones and long-range aerial vehicles, Ukraine now has an additional asset to rely on: drone-launched missiles.

For the first time, Ukraine's developed drone missile, named Palianyzia, saw action in combat. President Volodymyr Zelensky declared in a speech on Ukraine's Independence Day, "Today, we successfully employed our new weapon for the first time." The President hinted that a specific target had been hit.

This innovation marks a new category in military technology. In Zelensky's words, "This is our new means to strike back against the aggressor." Interestingly, Palianyzia derives its name from a common Ukrainian bread.

Ukraine's Minister of Strategic Industries, Oleksandr Kamyshin, confirmed the deployment through his Telegram channel. According to him, Ukraine's arsenal now includes mortar drones, artillery drones, and an entirely new addition: drone missiles.

The military blog Militarny speculates that Palianyzia is a drone equipped with a jet engine, enabling it to achieve higher speeds and reach the target more swiftly. Furthermore, this design allows for more flexible flight adjustments.

As per the Industry Minister Kamyshin, the initial deployment targeted a Russian military installation currently occupied by Kremlin forces. While the details of the facility and its location are undisclosed, Kamyshin hinted, "We will continue to develop and deploy more drone missiles, as well as more long-range drones in the future."

The newly developed drone missile, Palianyzia, was effectively used against a Russian military installation for the first time. Ukraine's arsenal now includes a wide range of drone types, such as mortar drones, artillery drones, and drone missiles.
