Potentially distinctive televised confrontation between Trump and Harris may have served as a pivotal turning point in the American election campaign.

U.S. electorate's response to the televised face-off

The highly anticipated face-off between presidential contenders Kamala Harris and Donald Trump sparked a noticeable response in American public opinion. After the TV debate, a swift CNN poll of eligible US voters delivered a distinct verdict.

63% of the respondents expressed that Democratic aspirant and current Vice President Kamala Harris emerged victorious in the debate, while only 37% believed former President Donald Trump shone brighter.

The Democratic party's potential triumph in the election may have experienced a notable boost: Pre-debate polls had Harris' positive ratings at 50%, whereas this figure jumped to 63% post-debate.

On the other hand, assessments of Trump descended: His ratings before the debate stood at 50% as the individual expected to outperform his adversary. Following the debate, only 37% held this view.

The CNN poll merely provided a momentary glimpse of the situation. The influence of Harris and Trump's performances on subsequent polls will reveal itself more clearly in the approaching days.

"From Harris' perspective, the situation couldn't have been more favorable," initiated CNN political analyst Stephen Collison in his initial analysis. Yet, whether this triumph would result in a lasting impact on voter behavior on November 5 is still uncertain. "There's no guarantee that this TV duel would play a decisive role in deciding the election outcome."

Regardless of opinions sourced from both political factions, the lightning poll offered a preliminary insight into how the US public is digesting the initial clash between the two presidential candidates.

Differing from extensive polls, the CNN poll relied on a comparatively limited sample size. The pollsters' methodology was meticulously documented.

In total, 605 nationally representative participants were surveyed, all of whom qualified as eligible voters and had signed up to exercise their right to vote. They claimed to have watched the TV debate live, either on television or online. Their opinions on which candidate fared better in the TV debate, regardless of their allegiances, were sought.

The Undecided and Trump

Inspecting the methodology revealed additional intriguing insights: Only 31% of the respondents identified as Democrats. 39% identified as Republicans, while an equal 30% hailed from neither major political party.

It appears that Donald Trump's performance on September 10 did not just leave undecided voters and swing voters with a mostly negative impression. The lightning poll data suggests that Trump also disappointed some of his own supporters in his direct conflict with Kamala Harris.

The upcoming elections might see a shift in support for the Democratic party, considering the significant increase in Kamala Harris' approval ratings post-debate. However, whether her debate victory will translate into a substantial impact on voter behavior on Election Day is yet to be seen.

Despite his Republican backing, some of Donald Trump's supporters seemed dissatisfied with his performance against Kamala Harris during the TV debate, as indicated by the decline in his approval ratings.
