Two thirds of Germans are afraid of Trump
Among Germans, Donald Trump had never been popular. Four months before the US elections in November, fear of a second term for the former President was growing. An exception were the supporters of AfD and BSW. However, there was consistent concern regarding the President's age.
Two-thirds of Germans expressed fear of a potential victory for Ex-President Donald Trump in the US Presidential elections in November. In response to a corresponding question, 66% answered yes, according to a survey by the opinion research institute Forsa for RTL/ntv-Trendbarometer.
In March, 60% stated that a potential Trump victory would make them anxious. At that time, there were no anxious feelings for 38%. This value has since fallen to 33%.
A majority of Germans in both East and West express fear of a second Trump presidency. The same holds true for party affiliations. From the Greens to the Union, a majority of supporters of each party expressed fear of a second Trump presidency - with two exceptions: 74% of AfD supporters and 57% of BSW supporters stated that a potential Trump victory would not make them anxious.
The survey also revealed that 77% of Germans believe that US President Joe Biden is too old for another term. Biden is 81 years old, and Trump is 78. In March, 68% of Germans held this opinion about Biden. Only 20% did not consider Biden to be too old. In March, this was the opinion of 29%.
The Germans are very united in their opinion on this matter, regardless of age or political preferences.
The data was collected by the market and opinion research institute Forsa on behalf of RTL Germany on June 28 and July 1. Sample size: 1005 respondents. Statistical error tolerance: plus/minus 3 percentage points.
