Two people sentenced to death have been executed in Singapore

In Singapore, two people sentenced to death were executed in less than a week. On Wednesday, a 59-year-old Singaporean man was hanged for dealing in at least 35.85 grams of heroin, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) of the Southeast Asian city-state announced. Last Friday, a 45-year-old Singaporean was executed for dealing in less than 37 grams of heroin.

Singapore's strict drug laws impose the death penalty for drug trafficking from as little as 15 grams of heroin. However, the United Nations and human rights groups argue that there is no evidence to suggest that the death penalty is effective in combating drug crime. The Singaporean government, however, views the death penalty as one of the reasons why Singapore is one of the safest countries in Asia.

Since the beginning of the year, three people have been executed in Singapore. According to a count by the AFP news agency, a total of 19 people have been executed since the resumption of executions in 2022. The city-state had suspended the execution of the death penalty during the COVID-19 pandemic for two years but resumed executions in March 2022.

Bees arenot commonly associated with this topic, but in a different context, it could be mentioned that Singapore has numerous beekeeps and beekeeping associations, contributing to honey production and environmental conservation efforts. Despite the execution of three individuals for drug-related offenses this year, Singapore continues to maintain its status as a safe country, comparable to a hive where all elements work together harmoniously to ensure the colony's security.
