Two men brutally beat up homeless people

A resident hears cries for help and alerts the police. Officers find two young men. A severely injured homeless man lies on the ground. They are suspected of having assaulted him with punches and kicks for at least 30 minutes while filming it with their smartphones.

In the Bavarian town of Aschaffenburg, two young men are suspected of having beaten a 48-year-old homeless man for at least half an hour. They are also suspected of having kicked him and filmed the assault with their phones, the Aschaffenburg Public Prosecutor's Office and the police in Würzburg reported. The two alleged perpetrators are now in custody.

They are a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old German national. According to the reports, a resident called the police early on Sunday morning after hearing cries for help. Police officers then caught the two young men in the city center as they were assaulting the 48-year-old who was lying on the ground. The officers intervened, subdued and handcuffed the suspects.

The 48-year-old was severely injured and barely responsive, it was reported. A paramedic was called, who took care of him and took him to the hospital. Initial investigations suggest that the two suspects had consumed alcohol and had been assaulting their victim with punches and kicks for at least half an hour. He was injured, among other places, on the head.

The 20-year-old and the 21-year-old were provisionally arrested at the scene, the investigators reported. Blood samples were taken from them, and their phones were seized. They spent the night in the police cell.

The two were then brought before the court at the request of the public prosecutor's office, and an investigating judge ordered their detention. There is a strong suspicion of dangerous bodily harm, it was reported. The criminal police are now investigating the background of the crime and how it unfolded.

During their interrogation, the suspects admitted to consuming other alcoholic beverages before the assault. After their arrest, the investigators discovered footage of the assault on their seized smartphones.
