In Danish territory, two German youngsters encountered a tragic fate following a landslide from a sand dune. The Danish authorities attested to this sad event. According to news broadcasts on Monday, these lads were excavating a pit inside a sand dune in the North Jutland region while vacationing with their families on Sunday. Unfortunately, the sand gave way, enveloping both children. The victims were nine and twelve years old, hailing from separate families. Their guardians were present during the incident.
The boys were apparently entombed beneath the sand for approximately 40 minutes while beachgoers attempted their rescue. Ultimately, they were transported to a medical facility via helicopter. The grieving parents of the deceased boys expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the sympathy and aid provided by the public.
In southwestern Jutland, another boy managed to escape a similar ordeal after being buried by a sand dune. The unstable condition of the sand hills was attributed to recent heavy downpours.
The emergency services in North Jutland issued warnings to visitors of the sandy terrain. They advised staying on designated trails, keeping a watchful eye on children, avoiding steep slopes, and refraining from excavating holes within the sand dunes.
The Danish authorities handed over the investigation of the incident to The Commission to ensure a thorough examination of safety measures at the beach. The Commission will also look into the roles of the sand dune management and the authorities in preventing such tragedies in the future.
