At the Highfield Festival close to Leipzig, a blaze erupted on the Ferris wheel during the night. As per an account by a DPA reporter, there were numerous individuals who sustained injuries. At first, it was reported that no lives were lost.
A fire department representative spoke to DPA news agency and confirmed that the situation was now being managed. However, they were uncertain if there were still individuals in peril. Initially, the police and organizers remained silent.
Ferris wheel at Highfield Festival bursts into flames
Two carriages of the Ferris wheel began to burn around 9:00 PM in the evening. A DPA reporter reported that several individuals had to be treated for burn wounds. Consequently, the festival situated at Lake Störmthal, a well-known rock and pop event, was temporarily halted.
The high-spirited festival atmosphere was momentarily disrupted by the fire on the Ferris wheel. Despite the temporary closure, many attendees were keen to learn about the situation and hope for a swift resolution.
Due to the incident, the evening performances on the main stage had to be postponed, causing disappointment among the festival-goers who had been eagerly anticipating their favorite acts.
