Two corpses unearthed at Lake Constance.

The Bodensee, a significant inland body of water in Germany, is notorious for its traits that make a person who drowns in it unlikely to reappear. Two corpses were unearthed in this lake within a day's time. On Saturday evening, three kayakers stumbled upon a lifeless body in the water between Hard in the Austrian district of Bregenz and Lindau, as per the Austrian police. The water rescue, police, and fire department were able to recover the lifeless body of a woman, but no details regarding her identity or cause of death have been disclosed yet.

The kayakers had come across the body amongst debris. A shoe found by the authorities suggests that the deceased was not a swimmer in the Bodensee, according to vol.at magazine. The body apparently had been submerged in the lake for several months. The authorities are awaiting the autopsy results before issuing any statements.

Several hours prior, a boat driver had chanced upon a dead man in the Bodensee and alerted the police. The body was retrieved by the Austrian fire department. Given that the discovery site was on German territory near the New Rhine's mouth, the body was handed over to the German authorities, as stated by a water police spokesperson.

The police do not suspect that one of the discovered bodies is connected to the search operation handled at Lustenau on the Austrian-Swiss border on Friday. Clothing items were found on the shore there. A connection was dismissed based on the clothing of the bodies, as per the spokesperson.

The Bodensee is one of the largest inland waters in Germany. Despite its still nature, there are hazardous areas in the lake. Especially when the water in the shore area plummets several meters suddenly. Due to its depth of up to 250 meters, associated water pressure, and low temperatures, a drowned person would initially fail to resurface. The water rescue police estimated in 2019 that around 100 bodies might still be in the Bodensee.
