After the discovery of two bodies in a burning multi-family house in Neustadt am Ruebenberge near Hannover, identity and gender are still unknown. The autopsy is "planned in a few days," a police spokeswoman said today.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still undetermined, fire investigators are on the scene, but the investigations are ongoing. Firefighters found the two deceased persons on Monday during rescue work. The other residents were evacuated from the house.

According to earlier statements from the fire department, the emergency services were alerted early on Monday morning due to unclear smoke development from the residential building. The attic apartment could not be entered at first due to the heat of the fire. 145 firefighters were on site.
