With warnings, the police in Oberhausen, NRW, stopped a 12-year-old armed person at a playground. Witnesses had alerted the response teams on Tuesday because the girl had been handling a knife on the playground, according to the prosecutor's office and police today.

Two warnings shots in the air

When the officers arrived, the girl had "threateningly" approached the police with the knife. Despite all orders to stop, a policewoman had given two warning shots into the air.

The girl had been momentarily startled and could be overpowered unharmed. A witness had helped the officers. A group of children had been present on the playground during the operation and had witnessed the event.

The proceedings against the 12-year-old will be conducted by the department for mentally disturbed offenders, the investigators stated, without providing further details.

The playground where the incident occurred is located in Oberhausen, NRW. The police officer resorted to giving two warning shots into the air due to the girl's threatening behavior. The case will be handled by the public prosecutor's office in NRW, specifically the department for mentally disturbed offenders.
