Attack on school in Gaza - Tweet from the Foreign Office regrets Central Council of Jews
The Central Council of Jews criticized the tweet of the German Foreign Office regarding the alleged Israeli attack on a school in Gaza sharply. A spokesperson for the Central Council stated on Thursday that the post "irritates and leaves any reason missing."
The German Foreign Office had written on X: "It is unacceptable that people are killed who seek shelter in schools."
According to the disaster relief service controlled by Hamas, at least four people were killed by the attack attributed to Israel on a school in the Gaza Strip on Sunday. The Israeli army stated that the school was used by Hamas fighters as a hideout and a workshop for weapons production.
Central Council of Jews misses criticism of Hamas in Gaza
The German Foreign Office called on X for civilians, especially children, not to get caught in the crossfire. "The repeated attacks of the Israeli army on schools must stop and a swift investigation is needed."
The Central Council of Jews clarified: "Before the German Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany made this call via social media, an investigation into the incident had already been initiated by the Israeli army itself." The spokesperson added further: "The call of German diplomats to the only democracy in the Middle East was not necessary." He missed the "clear call on Hamas not to use innocent people as shields."
The Central Council of Jews expressed concern about the lack of criticism towards Hamas in the Gaza Strip, stating that they should also be held accountable for placing civilians, including children, in harm's way. The attack on the school in Gaza, which resulted in casualties, had sparked outcry, but the Israeli army claimed that the school was being used as a hideout and a weapons production site by Hamas fighters. The Central Council of Jews in Germany believed that the German Foreign Office should have included a stronger condemnation of Hamas' actions in their social media post.
