US election campaign - Trump will remain steadfast 'in the face of evil'
After being attacked, former US President Donald Trump called for unity among the Nation. Simultaneously, Trump assured that he would remain steadfast "in the face of evil." The 78-year-old Republican presidential candidate also expressed gratitude for the support following the shooting during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. "God alone" prevented the unthinkable, Trump wrote on Truth Social. A shot had previously injured him in the ear.
"Our thoughts are with the other victims and their families," Trump wrote. "We pray for the recovery of the injured and keep in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was killed in such a heinous way."
During the attack, a bystander was shot dead, two others were injured. Security personnel killed the 20-year-old gunman.
Now it is more important than ever, "that we are united and show our true character as Americans, remaining strong and resolute and not allowing evil to prevail," Trump wrote. He looked forward to speaking in Wisconsin this week "to our great nation."
The Republicans will come together starting Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for their Nomination Convention, to officially nominate the 78-year-old as their Presidential candidate.
