Trump taunts US President Biden with doctor's letter
On Joe Biden's 81st birthday of all days, former US President Donald Trump is taking a jibe at his successor in office, who is four years his senior. On Monday, Trump published a letter that is said to be a professional assessment from his doctor, who attests to his "excellent" state of health.
The publication of the letter is an obvious election campaign maneuver by the Republican, and the seriousness of the letter and the examinations carried out are questionable.
He has been Trump's personal doctor since 2021, writes Bruce Aronwald, who is listed as a family doctor with the Morristown Medical Group in the US state of New Jersey. He last examined Trump's health "comprehensively" in September, according to Aronwald.
The letter does not mention the presidential candidate's weight, blood pressure or other test results. It merely states that the 77-year-old has reduced his weight. In addition, Aronwald writes that Trump will "maintain a healthy, active lifestyle in the years to come" due to his interest in preventive examinations.
Biden's health check reveals some ailments
Biden's health check was last published in February. In the five-page report, Biden's doctor certified that the Democrat was in a position to successfully fulfill the duties of a president. However, one or two ailments were listed - including a stiff gait and gastroesophageal reflux disease, which causes him to clear his throat frequently.
In the USA, presidents must regularly disclose the state of their health. This is not legally required, but it has become a kind of ritual that no president can avoid.
Biden celebrated his 81st birthday on Monday and is clearly the Democrats' most promising candidate to win the primaries. He entered the White House in 2021 as the oldest US president ever. Biden's age and his suitability to run for president again have long been the subject of debate, including within his own party. But Trump's advanced age is also a recurring topic, as he wants to return to the White House for the Republicans after the 2024 election. He also makes repeated promises and confuses people.
Despite Trump's publication of a doctor's letter highlighting his health, questions arise about its authenticity and the seriousness of the examinations, given that the US Presidential election is approaching. During Biden's 81st birthday celebrations, concerns about his health and fitness for another presidential term persist, with mentions of his gait issues and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
