- Trump participating in the wreath-laying event
Presidential hopeful Donald Trump paid his respects at Arlington National Cemetery to American soldiers who perished three years prior in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan. Some family members of the deceased were also present. On his personal platform, the 78-year-old referred to the withdrawal from Afghanistan as the "most disgraceful moment in our nation's history" and continued to lambaste President Joe Biden's administration for their ineptitude.
Tragic Incident in Kabul
During the U.S. military's withdrawal from Afghanistan, over 170 Afghans along with 11 American soldiers and 2 female soldiers were killed in an attack at Kabul airport. Trump has frequently criticized Biden and his administration for the chaotic evacuation, using it as a charged political talking point. The Republican aspirant aims to reclaim the White House following the November 5 presidential election, running against Biden's vice president, Kamala Harris.
Neither Biden nor Harris attended the wreath-laying ceremony in Arlington. Harris expressed that she mourns for the fallen U.S. military personnel every day, her thoughts lingering with their families and loved ones. "My heart is filled with sorrow for their pain and loss." Biden declared, "We must never forget the heavy cost of our freedom." The victims were hailed as "true patriots."
Biden's Private Time
Biden is spending this week at his private residence in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and has yet to make any public appearances. Last week, the 81-year-old also had no public appearances following his speech at the Democratic Party convention in Chicago on Monday. He and his wife Jill spent some time at a friend's luxurious estate in California before traveling to Rehoboth Beach on Sunday.
