Trump offers enticing promise of generous tips

In the approaching US elections, Nevada is seen as a crucial state. To secure Nevada's votes, Donald Trump makes costly pledges during his campaign: He vows to eliminate taxes on tips in the service sector.

During his campaign stop in the tourist metropolis of Las Vegas, Trump promises to abolish taxation on tips from hotel employees and others in the service industry. "This is the first time I've said it, and it will be a great relief for these workers," the Republican presidential candidate declared at a Nevada rally on Sunday. "If I am elected, we won't be collecting taxes on tips."

Nevada is regarded as a pivotal state for the presidential election in November. Both Trump and President Joe Biden are believed to have strong potential for victory in this "swing state." Trump has previously committed to extending the tax cuts passed by Republicans in 2017, which lapse at the end of 2025. Tax analysts predict that this move would expand the US deficit by about $4 billion more than projected over a ten-year span.

At the event, temperatures soared up to 39 degrees Celsius. Early in the day, thousands of Trump followers had already assembled and walked towards the event site in Sunset Park. Fans and misting stations were set up to ease the heat. Despite these efforts, at least three supporters were evacuated on stretchers before the event started. Residents of Las Vegas have grappled with excessive temperatures for days.

Nevada is among six or seven swing states expected to decide the election's outcome. According to the most recent Fox News poll following Trump's conviction in the hush money trial, Trump leads Biden in Nevada by five percentage points. It was his first significant rally since a New York jury convicted him of forging documents on May 30.
